What is the Senior Dog Adoption Club?

Many potential adopters shy away from senior dogs because they are concerned about additional cost of caring for the animal in their final years.  The Senior Dog Adoption Club is a program designed to address this concern.  This program supports rescue groups and shelters in Northern Nevada by encouraging the adoption of their senior dogs, or dogs that are otherwise difficult to adopt, through the offering of free or discounted products and services like grooming and veterinary care to their adopters. The adopter saves a significant amount of money, the senior will get the extra special treatment they deserve, and the shelter gets assistance re-homing their most difficult to adopt animals with a minimal investment in the program.

How does it work?

First, we invite animal service providers and pet stores to become sponsors of this program by offering discounts on their products and services to those who adopt designated seniors from participating shelters and rescue groups.  Businesses choose a discount or benefit that works for them. They will be featured on our website and receive a certificate or banner for display at their location.  This program offers local businesses a great opportunity to demonstrate community support by both word of mouth and online.

Next, participating shelters and rescue groups designate one or more of their senior dogs as a member of the Senior Dog Adoption Club (SDAC) and place a SDAC tag on their kennel. A brochure provided by shelter staff will inform potential adopters of both of the joys of senior dog adoption and the special benefits associated with this program.

Once the adoption is complete, the adopter or shelter provides the Senior Dog Sanctuary with the adopters contact information, along with a picture of the senior and their new companion(s).  We then send an Official Senior Dog Adoption Club Welcome Package that includes welcome letters, custom dog tag, and an ID card with their picture.  Adopters then show their ID card at participating businesses to receive their special discounts or pricing.
